I’m doing the presenting on an episode for WWYAT and I needed another way to really understand the people affected by Picasso and the attitude held by people. Another perspective, with a helping of historical context. And I really needed to understand the context for his art. Just reading Wikipedia and online articles does not do much when you’re trying to understand and sometimes hearing and seeing people speak about something brings a broader perspective to the picture.
It’s a 3 episode documentary on Picasso and his rather tumultuous life. The title— Beauty and the Beast— both refers to Picasso and his muses.
I had a hard time getting to watch this. Bro, I had to get a trial for the BBC and Amazon Prime just to watch it. Of course I’m shutting that shit down.
Anyway, episode 1 offers fascinating context for his youth and his first love. The culture that led him to be the scandalous existence he maintains after death. Even after digging around in endless articles, I still learned so much. There is a lot of art analysis and anecdotes from the people around him, which was instrumental to finish the research I was doing.
(bro i forgot i was writing this and it was sitting in drafts. poink! published now.)
