Black Sheep
A cynical twentysomething must confront her unconventional family’s dark secrets in this fiery, irreverent horror novel from the author of Such Sharp Teeth and Cackle. Nobody has a “normal” family, but Vesper Wright’s is truly…something else. Vesper left home at eighteen and never looked back—mostly because she was told that leaving the staunchly religious community…

The Dark History of the Reincarnated Villainess Season 1
ISEKAI’D BY: Truck-Kun! Konoha Satou has a dark history. After all, she spent her teen years writing self-indulgent fantasy romance fics-like her Dark History. But since she’s become its most despicable villainess, remembering every last detail is now a matter of life-and-death. Having avoided the first couple of death flags, Satou’s suddenly left in the…

My Best Friend’s Exorcism
Was Grady Hendrix a teenage girl in a past life? Some of it is staggeringly teenage girl. The horror of being young and powerless rolls off this book strongly. No one believing you when you try to tell the truth, when things go awry. The world suddenly turning against you when you don’t have privilege.…

No Longer Allowed in Another World Vol. 3-9
ISEKAI’D BY: Truck-Kun! (this entry does not add to the total) I ended up reading all the volumes I had in a row. I enjoyed the comedy, meeting the fucked up fallen angels— and then found that there’s rewriting powers, so things get reset, except they don’t, and also Sacchan is kinda an asshole. I…

Tantrum
this book left me paralyzed. it’s about generational trauma passed from mother to daughter, abuse that takes the form of “taming” and reliance. the beginning of the book seems grounded in reality and the discussions of feminine rage. of feeling underappreciated and overworked and having more problems on top of that. the deep boiling anger…

Rosemary’s Baby
A young couple, Rosemary and Guy, moves into an infamous New York apartment building, known by frightening legends and mysterious events, with the purpose of starting a family. Liked the book better. Like other movies based on books, it suffered from a lot of rushing through different items. It made Rosemary’s internal logic only outwardly…

No Longer Allowed in Another World Vol. 1-2
ISEKAI’D BY: Truck-Kun! An adventure in another world with cute girls by your side and video game-like powers–sounds like an anime fan’s dream, right? Not so for melancholic author Osamu Dazai, who would quite literally prefer to drop dead. Video games haven’t even been invented yet when he gets yanked into another world in 1948.…

My Status as an Assassin Obviously Exceeds the Hero’s Season 1
Oda Akira is the kind of guy who people forget is even there. His unassuming nature pays off, though, when his entire class is swept away to a fantasy world, and he slips easily into his new role as a silent assassin. Between his suspiciously high starting stats and too many details that don’t fit,…
M's Media Menagerie
Thoughtful Dumping Grounds
Trope: Not Actually Dead
Fake out! A character died but they ended up being revealed to be alive.
Welcome to the Menagerie.
Here is where M logs their media activity. Partly because Goodreads is forgettable and keeping physical logs is harder. Sometimes M writes a lot. Sometimes M doesn’t write enough. It doesn’t matter. This is just a for-fun little blog so that M can remember what they thought about whatever they watched or read or played or. Whatever.
What is M?
I read. Voraciously. I have subscriptions to those book things on digital retailers. I consume books at nearly all hours. The hours I don’t spend reading? I’m writing. I’m drawing. I have a problem. I have a problem in that I love to read things that are in the same vein repeatedly. Book journals don’t work and as much as I text my friends screenshots of book passages, it doesn’t scratch the itch. Now I’m going to be doing… tiny… tiny book reports.
