As I watched it, I was laughing to myself. No wonder it is so popular a series.
For people like me, it’s a criticism of the government putting systems in place that fuck over the lower class in order to build a world where those on top stay on top, enjoying the fruits of the system without consequences. It’s right fucking there. It’s a gimme. They literally say it out loud. It’s just magnifying current societal problems by a million degrees.
For other people, it brings up the fear of a class war. A them vs me mentality. Something that says to be ready to fight for your right to live, because there is someone always poised to take that away from you. Someone you have wronged in the past. Someone who hates you because of what you have.
The movie is a chameleon that is shaped by the person watching it. The only thing it definitively says that is hopefully agreed on by all viewers is “killing is bad”.
