A Working Man

Levon Cade left behind a decorated military career in the black ops to live a simple life working construction. But when his boss’s daughter, who is like family to him, is taken by human traffickers, his search to bring her home uncovers a world of corruption far greater than he ever could have imagined.

pretty straightforward action movie.
dude comes out of retirement for one last job. saves woman. goes home. loves his kid.
i am always amused by the lengths they go to show people are scared of the mc. at the end they have big boss go “the devil got what he came for. leave him alone.”
on the one hand: practical. boss man is likely aware that it was a one time thing.
on the other: this man humiliated your organization, killed a shitload of customers, ended 2 bloodlines, destroyed the source of much of the drugs being sold, burned down a gambling house, etc etc.
and this is the chicago branch. they worked the entirety of illinois (implied anyway).
yall gonna just let that go?
also he had the Im an Honorable Killer thing.
sigh
My favorite characyer was Jenn because she didn’t take her kidnapping lying down. girl really was doing everything “right”. as in, she did everything a jury would say, “why didn’t you x, y, or z?” she did, you can’t blame her for inaction. which is a false flag on Strong Female Character. they tried but they didn’t nail it.
partly aware she was like that so the female antagonist could be killed: showing the mc do violence to a woman would have given a bad impression. this is why they always do woman on woman fights man. or they start out with “i dont hit women” blah blah… it’s also why i don’t count it as a subversion of damsel in distress

Welcome to the Menagerie.

Here is where M logs their media activity. Partly because Goodreads is forgettable and keeping physical logs is harder. Sometimes M writes a lot. Sometimes M doesn’t write enough. It doesn’t matter. This is just a for-fun little blog so that M can remember what they thought about whatever they watched or read or played or. Whatever.

What is M?

I read. Voraciously. I have subscriptions to those book things on digital retailers. I consume books at nearly all hours. The hours I don’t spend reading? I’m writing. I’m drawing. I have a problem. I have a problem in that I love to read things that are in the same vein repeatedly. Book journals don’t work and as much as I text my friends screenshots of book passages, it doesn’t scratch the itch. Now I’m going to be doing… tiny… tiny book reports.
