THE INVISIBLE MAN FUCKS

Okay, anyway!
I truly do love this series. I can’t wait to buy physical versions to put on my shelf! It’s so cute, it’s so romantic, and I love the earnestness of the author.
Iwatobineko-sensei, in preparation for writing Yakou Shizuka, researched blind culture and interviewed real people in order to try to write as accurately as possible the experience of being blind. The manga clearly displays blindness not as a debilitating disability but as a trait, and Yakou is fully independent. It’s her blindness that ends up bringing her an Tounome Akira together.
The manga tackles a lot about cultural biases, tiny blips of prejudice and struggles showing what it’s like being different. Small things from how someone looks, to how someone loves, to how someone functions. It’s wonderful.
The art is lovely, vibrant, and expressive. The characters are realistic, and there’s such a wonderful variety of people in the cast. People struggle, but… it’s happy.
Highly, highly recommend.
