Join Taako the elf wizard, Merle the dwarf cleric, and Magnus the human warrior for an adventure they are poorly equipped to handle AT BEST, guided (“guided”) by their snarky DM, in a graphic novel that will tickle your funny bone, tug your heartstrings, and probably pants you if you give it half a chance.
With endearingly off-kilter storytelling from master goofballs Clint McElroy and the McElroy brothers, and vivid, adorable art by Carey Pietsch, The Adventure Zone: Here There be Gerblins is the comics equivalent of role-playing in your friend’s basement at 2am, eating Cheetos and laughing your ass off as she rolls critical failures and dies to a slime.
Tell me why I owned this since it came out, specifically took it with me after I got divorced, and yet NEVER picked it up to read. Tell me!
Anyway, I’m doing it now.
It’s fantastically loyal to the podcast and the changes that HAVE been made are rather amusing, very tongue in cheek to avoid the copyrights from WotC’s existing IP. It’s funny and I can still hear their voices in my head despite not having listened to it for YEARS.
I also like the character designs that Pietsch came up with. It still echoes in my mind people complaining about Taako. “Why is he blue?” and then one of the McElroys going, can you imagine us having a brown character named Taco?! Yeah, that was certainly something.
Fucking awesome work, I’m reading through the first three books and then I will collect the rest of the series.
