Alien refugees have come to Earth. They call themselves 9-Lives. Humans call them cat-boys, and force them to live as collared pets. Conri, a rebellious young 9-Life, ran away to escape this fate. But when a human named Adrian saves him from capture, Conri is torn between his desire for freedom and another desire he can’t quite admit, even to himself… Can two people meet as equals in a world divided between masters and slaves?
I hated this.
But there was just the one and I had it sitting in my to-read for so long I just thought, okay, I have to give it a fair shake. Even if it suffers from the Tokyopop OEL styling.
You’ll see.
discord notes
.y first though is it has to be OEL. confirmed on scrolling left to right.

im sorry???
oh no it scrolls left to right but reads rigbt to left this is going to suck
eek

(Editing note— Left: as something based on Japanese manga, this movement would make more sense and guide the eye better. Right: the reader has to jump FAR, and because it’s something that exists between English comics and Japanese manga, it is not immediately obvious where we’re heading.)
okay finally confirmed l t r

i am not enjoying this story

sexual harrassment, second class citizens, human trafficking
what the fuck???

i didn’t like it. 1 star
the prominent brown skinned dude made generic “stinky bean soup” and was a huge pervert.
also completely thrown by the concept of 9 lives being from… space? another plane of existence? and being basically angelic beings and being reduced to pets.
moving on…
this is probably supposed to be gay but my guy it was only there with the generic brown guy sexually harassing cat boy (“do you have eight nipples?”) and making dirty jokes. it wasn’t gay.
it suffered a lot of mood whiplash with the comedic shorthand clashing almost violently with serious or action scenes, inconsistent characterizations, and just… this is something that would have done much better by being a webcomic that continuously evolved instead of having been one of those ones from TokyoPop that was given a predatory contract.
i’m not even going into the real substance of this, it’s just not worth the read, sorry
