An innocent love becomes a bloody hell in another superb collection by master of horror Junji Ito.
Ryusuke returns to the town he once lived in because rumors are swirling about girls killing themselves after encountering a bewitchingly handsome young man. Harboring his own secret from time spent in this town, Ryusuke attempts to capture the beautiful boy and close the case, but…
Starting with the strikingly bloody “Lovesickness,” this volume collects ten stories showcasing horror master Junji Ito in peak form, including “The Strange Hikizuri Siblings” and “The Rib Woman.”
Classic Ito horror, Lovesickness is a collection of short horror stories. The first half is the titular “Lovesickness”, which I enjoyed quite a lot. Unexplainable elements with dominoes falling into place until it ends with an odd yin/yang element of two boys who can devastate you or bring you good fortune.
Watching Ryusuke become a being belonging to the town was fascinating. The kid really suffered and instead of twisting up, he atones forever for a mistake he made as a kid. Until he ends up just… becoming something that belongs to the fog.
I don’t care for “The Strange Hikizuri Siblings”. It’s half comedy, half horror, but for me it lack that spook factor. It’s just dickheads lmao
The Phantom Pain house was interesting, and so was The Rib Woman.
