Let’s Take a Walk in Another World Vol. 1-13

Summoning!

Sora was summoned into a fantasy world from his native Japan to be a hero… but the only special skill he has is “Walking”! Its effect? “Walk as much as you want without getting tired.” It sounds convenient, but it won’t help in the fight against the demon lord! Rejected for his weakness, he’s dumped outside the palace by the king’s guards. But as he begins to walk away, he suddenly levels up! Each step taken earns one experience point… and soon, useful skills like Examine, Alchemy, and Domestic Magic are his to command! Who knew just taking a walk could be the key to a whole new world?

the first half of the series i read is a fun series i would describe even as cozy! the second half of the series takes a right turn and plunges us into the reality of the threat of the demon lord, the threat of monsters, political intrigue, and how “i just wanted to walk through the world and have a nice life!” leads to FAKING YOUR OWN DEATH, BUYING YOUR FRIENDS’ FRIEND, “SLAVERY HAS ITS BENEFITS”, ADOPTING AN ASSASSIN, BEING CURSED BY A DEVIL, MEETING A SAINT ACCUSED OF HERESY ETC ETC ETC

I’m talking it goes from “wow! i can level just by walking?” and showcasing flying butterfly drinkable candies to orcs eating people raw and gore flapping everywhere and then back to our mc building the world’s merriest village out of sheer willpower.

the mascot is a fucking fluffy ball with bunny ears. there’s a moment where mc hesitates to fight because the act of taking a life is still a struggle for him. every piece of food is lovingly rendered and described in immense detail. slavery is an ongoing problem and ethical dilemma in the varying countries that relies on a shaky contract to protect the rights of slaves. it goes on and on

overall, i didn’t think i would enjoy the series. and then i did.

Welcome to the Menagerie.

Here is where M logs their media activity. Partly because Goodreads is forgettable and keeping physical logs is harder. Sometimes M writes a lot. Sometimes M doesn’t write enough. It doesn’t matter. This is just a for-fun little blog so that M can remember what they thought about whatever they watched or read or played or. Whatever.

What is M?

I read. Voraciously. I have subscriptions to those book things on digital retailers. I consume books at nearly all hours. The hours I don’t spend reading? I’m writing. I’m drawing. I have a problem. I have a problem in that I love to read things that are in the same vein repeatedly. Book journals don’t work and as much as I text my friends screenshots of book passages, it doesn’t scratch the itch. Now I’m going to be doing… tiny… tiny book reports.
