NEW FACES, NEW POSSIBILITIES
Cale Henituse is a man more eager to top off his wine than topple his foes, but adventure always seems to find him! This time, he befriends a kind yet sheltered necromancer, an ancient gold dragon, and twin saints on the run. But the stakes rise when the fierce Tiger Tribe arrives from the far east, seeking both refuge and revenge. Their shared enemy wields a powerful fleet, offering Cale a golden opportunity to turn the tide in his favor. With land, sea, and sky at play, Cale must craft a brilliant strategy to outmaneuver his foes—and maybe even come out ahead for once!
As much as I hate to say it, this felt like a very in-between novel. Maybe it’s because it was so hard to pick up again after waiting to read the next volumes for so long, but I had a hard time getting through to the end. I’ve got four more volumes to read, though, so I’ll endeavor to complete them since this IS one of my favorite series.
The thing is, like a lot of light novels, it’s written very simply and without embellishment. It narrates events. Still, I like the story, so I’m here for it.
It didn’t feature a lot of the old characters, or the conniving plotting that I’m used to seeing from Cale. That said, it’s like… the planning phase. The next book promises some big chess pieces being moved.
