Ira “Iraville” Sluyterman van Langewedye is a popular contemporary illustrator beloved for her charming watercolour illustrations of nature, small towns, idyllic scenes, and everyday life. This title brings together a collection of her best work in a giftworthy, lavishly presented hardback art book, which includes never-before-seen images, impressive portfolio pieces, insightful works in progress, beautiful photography, and the artist’s own guides to handcrafting sketchbooks and watercolour paints at home. Supported by a Kickstarter campaign in summer 2018, Cozy The Art of Iraville marks another high quality collaboration between 3dtotal Publishing and some of the best illustrators working today.

I found the first of Iraville’s art books at the library (lucky me!) and went through it at last (procrastination problem).

I really enjoyed the DIYs and the article pages. She has some really nice articles about embracing imperfections and how she enjoys white space as a character in this volume, and the DIYs talk about making your own watercolor (I love watching videos about this so it’s neat to see at any time) and binding your own sketchbook (always lovely to see a fellow artist do so).

The art is lovely as always. I love her colors and her stylization. It’s so interesting to see the stages of art and her thought process in the background.

Welcome to the Menagerie.

Here is where M logs their media activity. Partly because Goodreads is forgettable and keeping physical logs is harder. Sometimes M writes a lot. Sometimes M doesn’t write enough. It doesn’t matter. This is just a for-fun little blog so that M can remember what they thought about whatever they watched or read or played or. Whatever.

What is M?

I read. Voraciously. I have subscriptions to those book things on digital retailers. I consume books at nearly all hours. The hours I don’t spend reading? I’m writing. I’m drawing. I have a problem. I have a problem in that I love to read things that are in the same vein repeatedly. Book journals don’t work and as much as I text my friends screenshots of book passages, it doesn’t scratch the itch. Now I’m going to be doing… tiny… tiny book reports.
