Well this thing is an essay waiting to happen (written probably by someone else).
- i love how it perfectly slots into existing backrooms lore, from the aesthetic to the mood to the strange vibrancy and the vague unexplained bits and bobs. i mean it helps that it’s pretty much made by kane parsons (kane pixels) who i think i wrote about before somewhere else. kane parsons is responsible for pioneering a lot of modern backrooms lore and making videos that many people use as inspiration or even take as backrooms gospel.
- It’s definitely an analogy for mental illness, using trauma to create beings. at first it feels obvious. this guy is a failed architect! he runs a furniture store! it’s an extension of the furniture store! and then it’s his own ego that devours him in the end. his ego destroys others. he is “wired to hurt” and he just accepts it.
- the backrooms as memories of objects and things rather than the noclip dimension is fascinating. it’s a parallel mental maze made up of flickering synapses. whose synapses? ours, maybe, our collective human culture.
- love that it’s vintage 90s but even though it takes place in yellow rooms it doesn’t have weird sepia disease
- LOVE the integration of modern found footage analog horror. when the camera got lifted up by clark’s ego— which I’m choosing to call it— that was one of the best parts of the second chase.
- again, really love the dedication to the backrooms lore. really enjoyed the movie.
