Apprentice mage Chise Hatori is invited to enroll at the College, a prestigious learning institution for sorcerers, to examine and look for a way to remove the curses she bears. Despite the reluctance of her groom, Elias Ainsworth, Chise accepts the proposal, as she believes attending the school might help her minimize her self-sacrificing tendencies.
From the get-go, Chise grabs the attention of her classmates and professors alike, who have never seen a mage in action before. However, there is a sinister plot brewing behind the College’s back, and the young mage will have to determine who is friend or foe in order to put a stop to it.
WE! HAVE! BUDGET!!!!!
This season is not focused on romance so much as it is focused on Chise’s development as a person who cares for herself and others. She has power now, and she is no longer someone who can only be protected. She forges forward admirably (and impressively) while trying to solve a mystery that hovers over her new school.
I accidentally hit publish before I wrote more about it.
I really like this season. We have long-established characters and new characters all getting to come into their own, and seeing Elias grow beyond “jealous sumbitch” into “doting husband” is quite nice. The resolution between him and Chise makes sense (“Don’t behave in a way that would damage this”, this being his bolo) and it’s f u c k i n g cute.
The budget for this one is a lot more as well, carefully stretched throughout the season and used liberally for those cooler scenes you’re just excited to see animated.
Major catharsis at the end. Fuck grandma
