Unlike her friends who are into pretty boys, Momoka has a crush on a giant professional wrestler named Kuga who plays a villainous heel on TV. But in real life, Kuga is a big softie, and he really appreciates her fan mail! In this lighthearted romantic comedy, a little TV crush for a very big man might just grow into something more.
I sure do have complicated feelings on this one!
The age gap… the girl is in high school and the dude is twenty nine. Her perseverance overpowers his good sense and the pair end up dating. Everyone is justifiably pissed at the dude. The “wholesome” angle comes from their strict and family-approved relationship where they don’t do anything more than hold hands.
I tell you what, though, no way, no, I read the four books expecting more hurdles but, um.

I love problematic things that are supposed to be problematic but when it’s like this, it kinda hits close to home because no matter what… that age gap with her in high school… I really thought she would be older…
Even if I were to disregard that, it’s a very shallow romance where they never really get to see each other and he literally leaves to wrestle in the States for a year while she goes to become a police lady. All the character growth really happens off screen. There’s not really any will they/won’t they. It’s a “they will, it’s just that dad is taking this seriously” and it’s… a bit… boring?
It plays like an iyashikei, with no tension or real conflict, but it doesn’t have that healing factor that makes me go, “yes, this is good.”
