september 2025…

the renovation is finished… and so with the expansion of space to keep books, natural more books arrived to fill the space. my 60% has lowered! not to worry though. i will likely be reading more in the morning now. the long shelves have ended up being a boon since they accommodate a lot. originally i was planning on having a lot that i staggered down to reduce the need for book ends, but with the current set, i just… use the bookends i have, or vertically stack books. i also removed a handful of duplicates and books i disliked, donating them to the library (i prefer to donate first before selling)(especially when i know the library doesn’t have those books). i hope i can read more since i have a LOT that i wish to read (or reread!).

then again, i have some library books to get through as well.

with september rolling in and one out of two of my goals met, i wonder if i have it in me to finish out the 65 novels? since i picked up audiobooks again, it certainly seems possible. i’m not able to read while working anymore because the volume of work i do has gone way, way up and i can’t split my vision anymore for it.

in any case, i have three more months to figure out if i can reach the goal. since my hours are changing as well, on days where i don’t have dr’s appointments and such, i will probably be filling the morning with reading and drawing. it’ll be therapeutic! it’s mostly so i can stop losing my shit at work and get more concentrated quiet time.

there was a brief malware scare on the domain that earned me a phone call from a hostgator rep who explained to me that while i paid for malware scans, i do not pay for malware removal. he was perfectly nice and i needed time to see if it was going to be worth the money for me, seeing as i pay out the nose already for hobby sites for some god-forsaken reason (i think it’s fun to make things).

after perusing the malware scan results i have found that it was because oglaf, a famous porn comedy, is listed as porn and blacklisted as malware on hostgator’s scanners.

i removed the link to remove the alert, but there’s no telling when the other NSFW links may be tagged as malware someday.

a real future goal for the sites is to learn how to do self-hosting after i build a proper server. right now i am also the base of operations for our plex server as well and a LOT of data gets chugged around. likely after i’m done paying off quite a few others things and finish renovating the basement?

(or if i’m lucky perhaps i will simply save for a house at last)

(get ready for THAT gap in posts)

i am beginning to examine what worked and what did not for next year. i do not like being perpetually “behind” (thanks manga) so it may change soon.

final thoughts: i need to chill my ass tf out. this month will also be busy so i don’t foresee a lot happening until i have substantial time on the side. which i have been filling with my other hobbies. i do enjoy maintaining my websites like weird galleries and public diary spaces, but i want to figure out what way feels best.

i don’t make this stuff for anyone, and i know only two people actively visit this (and my other) sites.

(sorry mr. hostgator rep, like, i know them personally, ain’t no one coming here seriously to look at this stuff)

it’s just a hobby space. i need to learn how to enjoy myself more.

Welcome to the Menagerie.

Here is where M logs their media activity. Partly because Goodreads is forgettable and keeping physical logs is harder. Sometimes M writes a lot. Sometimes M doesn’t write enough. It doesn’t matter. This is just a for-fun little blog so that M can remember what they thought about whatever they watched or read or played or. Whatever.

What is M?

I read. Voraciously. I have subscriptions to those book things on digital retailers. I consume books at nearly all hours. The hours I don’t spend reading? I’m writing. I’m drawing. I have a problem. I have a problem in that I love to read things that are in the same vein repeatedly. Book journals don’t work and as much as I text my friends screenshots of book passages, it doesn’t scratch the itch. Now I’m going to be doing… tiny… tiny book reports.
