Part of the Fuck Capitalism Jam 2025.
One of the most popular entries in the jam, I decided to take a quick peek to distract myself from other shit. I wrote my comment (“Hits like a lemon truck”) but I’m still shy of making my full analyses on actual places where people can see. Go figure, I got blogs and shit coming out of my ears but making a comment feels too vulnerable.
Anyhow, it’s a simple clicker game. You need to outpace the stockholder’s demand for growth or else you’re removed from your post, so the choices sit between the sustainable option and the shitty option. The shitty option gives you more money but absolutely fucks people over, and the sustainable option is the obviously better option, so… you play.
I tried the sustainable option twice. You simply can’t keep up with the increasing demands for growth and you lose the game. But when you make choices that spike the price, remove the competition, and are clearly worse, you keep your job and can outpace the demand. It’s a pretty black and white outcome, and the essay that goes along with the game explains the reasoning well.
The system itself is responsible. It pushes people to make the choices they do and they end up becoming billionaires… just another shitty cog. When you try to resist, the market fucks you over.
In terms of gameplay, the tutorial is straightforward and easy to understand. You have the option of being able to hold to continuously click, which helps my wrist issues. The music is cool and calm and the coin clinking noises keep a beat consistent with it. GG
